Wine Distillation Plant

Equipment for distilling wine into a wine-derived spirit. ATTOMO reviews the wine feed, required distillate and operating method to define the equipment package.

Process and equipment approach

Wine is produced by fermentation. Distilling wine is a separate process that concentrates alcohol and volatile components to produce a spirit; it is not a stage required to make ordinary wine. The distillation arrangement and any further finishing must suit the intended product.

Applications and product requirements

A wine-distillation system processes fermented wine into a wine-derived spirit. It may be considered for a defined spirit-production programme or another approved alcohol-recovery duty. Fermentation, wine storage and grape processing are upstream activities and should be identified separately in the quotation.

Equipment and operating approach

The distillation section heats the wine, separates volatile components and condenses the selected fractions. Batch pot-still operation and continuous column operation have different operating patterns and product implications. The process design considers feed alcohol, volatile acidity, suspended solids, foaming and the desired distillate. Selection of fractions and any redistillation must follow the agreed product strategy.

Pot-still equipmentA pot, vapour path and condenser form the basic arrangement. Heating, contact materials, condenser duty and receivers are selected for the spirit and operating method.

Scope of supply

Define the right package.

The quotation defines the included equipment, services and battery limits.

  • Specified still or distillation equipment
  • Condensers and product receivers
  • Heating, cooling and transfer interfaces
  • Controls and instrumentation within the package

Materials and configuration

The package can define the still or column, heating surfaces, condensers, receivers, transfer equipment and controls. Copper contact, stainless-steel sections and removable cleaning access should be reviewed for the particular feed and spirit objective. Maturation, blending, final dilution, filtration and bottling are not implied merely by specifying a wine-distillation plant.

Utilities and operation

Heating and condenser duty depend on feed volume, alcohol content, operating schedule and product cut. Cooling-water temperature and its seasonal maximum are useful early inputs. Cleaning and drainability need attention where wine contains solids or deposits. Any flavour, alcohol yield or product-grade commitment needs a defined feed and agreed acceptance procedure.

Project questions

Frequently asked questions

Does wine distillation produce ordinary wine?

No. It produces a distilled spirit from wine. A winery and a wine-distillation plant require different scopes.

Is the finished product automatically brandy?

The product name and applicable requirements depend on the feed, production and finishing process. These must be confirmed for the intended market.

How does the operating schedule affect equipment selection?

State the feed volume, operating hours, seasonal availability and preferred batch or continuous operation. These inputs help define feed holding, distillation capacity, receivers and heating and cooling requirements.

How do pot stills and continuous columns compare for this duty?

Selection depends on batch size, operating schedule, desired separation and product character. Neither arrangement can be selected from daily capacity alone.

What wine analysis is useful for a quotation?

Provide alcohol concentration and its basis, acidity, relevant volatile impurities, suspended solids, feed volume, temperature and the intended distillate specification.
